The Ganga in spate - at Varanasi

The boats are off the river
August 9th. Dr Rajendra Prasad Ghat. The Ganga is in spate, and the steps have disappeared.

The skies have opened.  The waters flow even more swiftly.  Cold, dark and relentless.


We seek refuge waiting for the rains to stop.

And then there is a pause, as the sun comes out, adding to the drama.








It is almost eleven, and now the mynahs call noisily, ready to face the morning.  It is time to move on.

Kasi Vishwanath was a blur.  It was the tempestous, majestic and ravaged Ganga that held centrestage in Varanasi.
