Day 21 - Pellucid hawkmoth revisits

September 2024 - this moth came and rested in our balcony.

Pellucid Hawkmoth Cephonodes hylas)

It chose a spot, shaded by the big green leaves of our Kopsia.

I thought it was a chance occurrence, but then, 16th July 2025, and I see the moth again!

Sorry for the over exposed photograph - the best I could do.

What a beautiful moth this is -  clear wings, bright green body with those lovely bands across the rear.  It does look like a bee, the stout body, and it is sometimes called the coffee bee hawkmoth because the host plant is various plants of the coffee family.

Interestingly, it is a daytime moth, unlike other hawkmoths, and supposedly they can fly backwards and hover like hummingbirds.  I hope next time I see them in action.
