Day 45- the white Bauhinia
Dwarf White Bauhinia (Bauhinia acuminata) |
Morning walk discovery in Valmiki Nagar. I see the purple ones often. But this white one is uncommon in these part. Vellai mandarai in Tamil.
So pretty isnt it? It is more shrub than tree with those characteristic bi-lobed leaves. It is one of those small beautiful shrub trees which I wonder why people don't plant more commonly. Landscape designers in the city should add this one - I think it attracts butterflies, looks kind of dainty and if I am not mistaken is a good one for improving the biodiversity.
I have seen it more often in East, called "Kanchan" in Bengali and mostly refers to white one. Fragrant flowers, not sure pink ones are fragrant. pink has floral stamp to its credit..didnt know. https://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Kachnar.html https://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Dwarf%20White%20Orchid%20Tree.html
