Day 47 - Invasive thoughts and invasive species

It is another cool and cloudy morning here in Chennai and the EB has warned us that we will have a power outage for the whole day.  Oh well, at least forewarned is forearmed.  Charge all the devices, keep the fridge shut and don't load the washing machine.  Such first world problems I have.

I do my morning yoga, and my mind is invaded by unnecessary thoughts.  Can't keep them away, these invasive thoughts, they creep in and slowly my focus is shifted and I am distracted.  Breathe in breathe out rhythm lost and yoga tempo forgotten.

Much like the "invasion" of these species which shouldn't be here, but are.

African Giant Snail (Lissachatina fulica) see on my road after the overnight rains.

I remember seeing this in 2010 on a walk with kids when everyone was so excited.  Chitra then told me that it was an invasive species, having arrived here due to "anthropogenic interventions" - came in on some boat I suppose - and has since been a pain, feeding away and also impeding our own snails from thriving.

Quite the illegal alien through no fault of its own.  A monsoon beauty or not?  Naturalists are alarmed upon seeing it, and there is an informal kill order on them, which I ignore.

The snail entered India in 1847 says Wikipedia.  How they establish this I have no idea.

These ones I saw are quite young judging from the smaller shells on their back - their muscular feet quite visible. They love the spider lily leaves, so I am sure these two will be chomping away happily.
